Navigating outpatient healthcare through the eyes of an ASC Administrator

Author:

Whether you are currently a healthcare leader or aspiring to become one, learning from the journeys of others is always beneficial.  No matter what you encounter along the way, someone has inevitably been there and done that before you.  The goal of my blog is to share some stories, maybe even a few laughs, and allow others to learn from my experiences: both failure and success.

I don’t claim to have all the answers or know everything there is to know about being a great leader or Administrator, but I do have the bumps, bruises, and scars that I wear proudly and that have allowed me to grow as a leader and as a person.  I consider myself a resource, not an expert.

My name is Lori Martini and I am a Board-Certified Ambulatory Surgery Center (ASC) Administrator.  I am a regular speaker at Becker’s ASC Annual Meeting and a contributor to articles with Becker’s Healthcare and ASC Focus.  My prior experience is in commercial lending, which translates to the financial side of healthcare.

Although not clinical, I have a well-rounded background.  I have been an Administrator in three facilities in three different states; Wyoming, Colorado, and Mississippi.  One facility was independently owned by physicians and not accredited but was CMS certified and regulated by the State Department of Health.  One facility was accredited by The Joint Commission and was a joint venture between physicians and a hospital and managed by the management company who employed me.  My current facility is independently owned by physicians and accredited by the Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Healthcare (AAAHC) with no management company.  I think that covers just about every structure out there in the ASC industry.

I have plenty of stories that I will share; some of which will have you either nodding in agreement/understanding or shaking your head in utter disbelief.  Some of the names I will use are fictitious, and others are real.  Happy reading and I look forward to your comments and shared experiences.  I hope you are able to take something useful away from this blog.
